The spark: how iPopUp began

iPopUp Studio was inspired by a fascination with contactless NFC technology and the idea that physical objects could become interactive emotional experiences rather than simple printed products. Having worked in tourism, as a former librarian and as an author of children’s picture books, Lana Zmijarević was naturally drawn to the idea of connecting physical objects with digital storytelling and interactive technology. The concept evolved into a creative vision that combines NFC, QR technology and AR-inspired experiences to create personalised postcards, greeting cards and mini story experiences that are fun, emotional and immersive for both children and adults.

iPopUp Studio transforms memories into interactive emotional experiences instead of simple photos or printed souvenirs. Unlike traditional postcards, greeting cards or digital sharing, iPopUp combines physical keepsakes with NFC, QR and AR-inspired technology that allows memories, selfies, stories, locations and digital content to come to life in a personal and immersive way. The experience is designed to feel magical, emotional and interactive without requiring complicated equipment or VR headsets — creating a simple bridge between the physical and digital world. Every iPopUp creation is personalised individually, turning travel memories, special moments, storytelling and human connection into something people can truly feel, keep and share.

After using an iPopUp card, we hope people feel emotionally connected, surprised and inspired by the experience of seeing memories come to life in an interactive way. iPopUp is designed to create moments of joy, nostalgia, curiosity and connection by blending physical keepsakes with digital storytelling, personalised content and AR-inspired interaction. Whether it is a travel memory, a greeting card, a personal message or a special shared moment, the goal is to help people feel closer to the people, places and stories that matter to them — while creating an experience they will remember, revisit and share with others.

Learn how it works 

iPopUp Studio is designed to make interactive storytelling simple, emotional and easy to use for both children and adults.

Most experiences work through a personalized NFC and QR system placed on the back of the postcard, greeting card or mini story experience. Users simply scan the QR code or tap the NFC area with their phone, then turn the card to the front side where the interactive experience comes to life in an immersive AR-inspired way.

The NFC experience is most often connected to a personalized selfie, couple photo, family picture or group memory that allows people to see themselves become part of the story, destination or experience in a playful and emotional way.

The QR experience can connect to optional additional content such as websites, videos, digital books, audiobooks, personal messages, travel memories, social media pages or other creative interactive experiences chosen by the user.

For authors and storytellers, mini story experiences can promote books and creative projects through digital previews, e-books, audiobook samples, websites or promotional content connected through QR and NFC technology.

Children’s experiences are designed to encourage imagination and emotional connection in safe and creative ways. Depending on the concept chosen by the author or parent, children may see protected selfies, drawings, favorite characters, imaginative scenes or story-inspired elements appear interactively while moving the phone across the front cover or illustration.

The experience is designed to feel alive and dynamic rather than static, allowing memories, characters and storytelling moments to feel immersive, playful and emotionally memorable over time.

ABOUT / CREATOR SECTION

iPopUp Studio was created by Lana Zmijarević, former librarian and author and illustrator of the children’s picture books “Adrian and the Train of Love” and the Croatian rhyming picture book “Kako uloviti duginu sjenu”, available on Amazon in Premium Paperback editions.

Praised by a Master of Primary Education, the stories blend imagination, emotional learning and interactive storytelling inspiration.
